Mitchelstown/Ballygiblin 4-7 Clerihan 7-6

Our under 13’s had their second game against Clerihans u14’s in Ballyporeens Carmel Mackin completion under lights last Friday night in Ballyporeen.

Playing under lights was a novelty for the lads and what an entertaining games with not a sweeper in sight and plenty of goals. Sean Walsh did the warm up and the boys hit the ground running and dominated the opening quarter to lead 2-2 to 0-1, the goals coming from Adam Barry and Luke Keane. Clerihan fought back and had our lead back to one point 3-5 to 3-4.

Our third goal was a wonderful team goal that was finished by James Connolly Murphy. Clerihan hit us for three goals early in the second half but it was now our lads really showed what they were made of. Instead of wilting they came storming into the game. We had goal chances but came up against an excellent Clerihan keeper. We got points from Oisin Handrahan & Adam Barry before Adam buried a screamer of a shot from 30 yards. Robbie was excellent in goals and could not be faulted for any of the goals.

Fionn Handrahan is playing mighty football at fullback and was given great assistance by Eoghan Geary and James Luddy. Cathal Sheehan was rock solid in the centre of defence while Bobby Baker and Oisin Handrahan are excellent at turning defence into attack. Gavin O’ Donoghue and Adam Barry broke even against their physically bigger oponenents in midfield.

All the forwards played very well with Cormac Luddy and Eoin Flynn setting up some of the scores. Thanks to the parents who supported the lads on the night. Thanks to Jim O’ Callaghan and Ballyporeen for having the pitch and lights organised. Thanks to referee Liam O’ Connor for doing an excellent job and he played advantage rule very well.

Team and scorers. Robbie O’ Sullivan, Eoghan Geary, Fionn Handrahan, James Luddy, Oisin Handrahan(0-1), Cathal Sheehan, Bobby Baker, Gavin O’ Donoghue, Capt., Adam Barry(2-1), Davey Conroy(0-2), James Connolly Murphy(1-1), Cormac Luddy, Eoin Flynn, Colin McNamara (0-1) and Luke Keane(1-1).

The training done with Fionn Herlihy and Sean Walsh is starting to show in the lads, we know that we have a lot to do but we are delighted with the start. We should have games on the next two weekends.
