ALL ROADS LEAD TO PÁIRC UI RINN FOR COUNTY FINAL

Mitchelstown Intermediate football team travel to Páirc ui Rinn next Sunday to play Kanturk in this year’s IFC final. This has been a long journey for the team as this will be their 8th match in this year’s Championship which has brought great excitement and pleasure to all involved and our supportors in particular who have travelled in big numbers since the 1st round which was a defeat to next Sunday's opponent’s Kanturk in Churchtown last April by 5 points in a very exciting game of football which Kanturk were deserving winners.

Our next Championship game was going to be 7 weeks later through the back door and we took advantage of this with a comprehensive victory over Adrigole in Macroom on a lovely summers evening .We then had to wait another 6 weeks for our next game v Millstreet and in a tight game we ran out winners by 5 points. Next up were Ballydesmond which was played in Mallow and a late equalizer got us the draw and a 2nd chance which we took in the replay where we played some great football and ran out 11 point winners.

That Round 4 victory seemed to give the boys great confidence and everyone was looking forward to playing Rockchapel who are very seasoned outfit. This was another great performance as the lads battled back from 5 points down with 15 min remaing to win by 2 which put us into the semi to meet Cill Na Martra who along with Kanturk were the favorites at the start of the year .

Our lads were not phased by the strenght of our opposition and they put up another brilliant performance to win by 6 points to qualify for the final to play Kanturk who again will be formidable opponents.

This current Kanturk outfit have already lifted the Premier Intermediate hurling Championship a few weeks back and are looking for a unique double. They have a very strong panel and are littered with inter county experience with up to 9 or 10 of their players having played with Cork in some form or another but while we respect them we will not travel to Páirc ui Rinn in fear. We will play our own brand of football and I know the boys will give it 100% .

If you asked me what’s the difference this year I would say the young lads have brought a bit of freshness to the squad and competition for starting places has been very tight. In every competitive every game we have played 20 to 21 players and that tells its own story.

I know the players would want me to thank the great support we have had on this journey no more so than back in Charleville when the supporters lifted the team in the last 15 minutes when they were 5 down this team have great resolve and determination and let’s hope that the team get their reward next Sunday in Páirc Ui Rinn.

I know from the excitement around the town that there is great support for this team so let’s come out one more time and support the lads. Best of luck !
