MITCHELSTOWN ADVANCE TO SEMIS IN GUTSY PERFORMANCE
MITCHELSTOWN 1 11
ROCKCHAPEL 2 06
Mitchelstown travelled to Charleville last Saturday evening to play Rockchapel in this year’s IFC and came away with a tremendous victory to advance to the semi- final of this year’s Championship in very wet and windy conditions and horrible throughout they put in their best performance of the year to have a crack at the hot favourites Cill na Martha next Saturday in Banteer. Rockchapel won the toss and decided to play with the wind this was worrying for Mitchelstown supporters as all year we have been very slow out of the blocks but the opposite happened knowing Rockchapel to be a quality outfit the boys got stuck in straight away a great move by Dinnen Beston left Liam Keane free but he drove it wide in the 1st min then a move involving Magee Cahill was brilliantly kicked over the bar by Shane Beston on the 3rd minute Rock chapel levelled it up on the 5th minute but Mitchelstown were dominating and been driven on by the half back line of Carrolll Molloy Fox they went in front on the 7th minute when the Brick walsh pointed a free and then on the 10th min converted another one to put Mitchelstown 2 ahead after 10 minutes then on the 14th min a great ball by Shane Cahill to his younger brother Cathal who coolly slotted the ball to the back of the net this had Mitchelstown in a commanding position mid-way through the first half leading 1 03 to 0 01 and playing against the wind while Mitchelstown dominated the first 15 Rockchapel dominated the remaining of the half they tagged on two quick points on the 20th and 21st min to reduce the gap to 3 and during this period Mitchelstown had a few chances to keep the score board ticking over but they failed to this and this gave Rockchapel great believe and when they goaled on the 28th min and took the lead for the first time it had Mitchelstown shaken some good defending by the Town backs kept the damage to a minimum at half time 1 04 to 1 03 while disappointed to concede a late goal they would have taken that scoreline before a ball was kicked with the conditions now in their favour. Mitchelstown now playing with the wind were expected to come out and take the game to Rockchapel but the complete opposite happened Rockchapel won the throw in and held the ball very well without Mitchelstown player getting a touch of the ball they put together a great move which eventually was goaled by their inter county star Sheamus Hickey a further point on the 35th min had them 5 clear early in the 2nd half this did not look good as Rockchapel are an experienced outfit having been to the final last year but our lads refused to buckle a great solo run by Sean o Sullivan beating 3 defenders but just failing to goal seemed to spur them on a wonderful point by Shane Cahill on the 37th min reduced the gap to 4 then Micheal walsh kicked a brilliant 45 from a difficult angle followed by another super free kick minutes later to cut the gap to two Mitchelstown were now dominating all over the field then Dave Dinnen who was working tirelessly in midfield throughout popped up and kicked two wonderful points from distance to draw us level with 10 minutes remaining 2 06 to 1 09 Mitchelstown were not for turning back now an exceptional point by Cathal O Mahoney had us in front followed by another super individual effort By Dylan Reidy- Price to put us 3 ahead entering the last couple of min of the game while on top Rockchapel would not give in a good move started in their own back line ended up with Hickey bearing down on goal but he was tackled by Fionn Herlihy to the ground and free awarded the ref decided it was a black card as well Rockchapel reduced the gap to 2 with 3minutes of extra time been played but Mitchelstown held the ball well for the remaining time left and held on for a great victory.Manegment of the team will be delighted again with the performance it was better again from the last day but it had to be if they were going to overcome a team of Rockchapels statue they also showed great character to come back from goals on either of the half and to cut back a lead of 5 points and as in all games the replacements coming had another major influence on the game, they now play the raging hot favourites CIill Na Martha who have been odds on since the 4th round but we will travel in full belief that we can overturn them our boys will give their all thanks also to the great support we had last week when the boys were in trouble that’s when you were heard the loudest and gave the team great lift in difficult times TEAM L HANNA L FINN F HERLIHY M MAHER G CARROLL P MOLLOY S FOX (CAPT) S WALSH D DINEEN (02) P MAGEE S CAHILL(01) M WALSH(0 4) C O MAHONEY(1 02) S BESTON(01) L KEANE SUBS D REIDY- PRICE(01) S O SULLIVAN L O FLYNN K ROCHE J COTT O BURKE
