Mitchelstown G.A.A. Notes Thursday 17th Aug 2017

IFC Game Is On The Horizon.

It's been a long time since our Intermediate footballer's have been in a position to have any organised games laid on for them due to delays in the Co. IFC over Cork's involvement in Munster & All Ireland Series in both hurling & football.
However, following last Sundays defeat of our Senior hurlers to Waterford, things on the domestic scene will become a lot clearer over the next few weeks.
Mitchelstown are awaiting the losers of the clash involving our friends & neighbours Glanworth who take on Milstreet in a game that is due to take place on Sunday 20th of August .
Our game versus the loser of that tie is a round 3 game & is provisionally down to be played on the following Saturday 27th of August. This date may a change of course due to results elsewhere but we will keep you updated on this through The Avondhu & on our social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter & Clubify as well as on our Club website www.mitchelstowngaa.com .
There is however a Co. Football Div.3 League fixture this Friday night versus Kinsale at 7.30pm at Limerick Road Pitch to keep the panel ticking over.

Lotto

There was no winner of last Thursday night's Jackpot of €3,800 but the three lucky dip prizes of €50 each were Jim Hedderman from Skeheen as well as John O'Brien & Anthony Kiely who both purchased tickets from promoter Cyril Kiely. The Next Draw takes place on Thursday 24th August at 8.30pm in The Bodhran on King Street.

We thank you for your continues support & wish you the best of luck in trying to win the next jackpot of €4,000. Tickets available from Bars & retail outlets & from members of the Club Committee.

Avondhu Have Good Win In SFC

Our Club had three players involved with the Divisional side in Macroom on Saturday last in what can only be termed as another positive step for Avondhu Senior Footballers with a good win over Ilen Rovers on a scoreline of 2.12 to 9 points.
Shane Beston lined out at number 11 & Sean Walsh started at full forward. Sean O'Sullivan was also involved when introduced as a second half substitute . Avondhu now take their place in Rd. 4 of this years Co. SFC & hope to continue their good form from the last 2 years when they play again in a few weeks time.

Strictly Mitchelstown

Things are starting to come together in preperation for the “Strictly Mitchelstown” event which takes place on Saturday 14th of October in the Firgrove Hotel Mitchelstown.
We are delighted to join forces with Mitchelstown Musical Society to bring you an evening of wonderful entertainment in which over 30 locals will take to the floor to show off their dancing skills. Most of our dancers have met & have in fact have had their first official rehearsal on Friday last. There is great excitement about this event & we will have the Official Launch night in Walsh's Yard Bar on Friday 1st of September where the dance couples will be publicly announced.

There are still a couple of dance positions available & so if you feel like having a great time & letting your hair down (or up !) No matter what your level of dance experience is if any , feel free to contact Garry Coleman on 087 6120887 or Mary Carolan on 086 2423129 & either of them will be happy to take your details & help get you up & going in what promises to be one of the best social occasions of the year in Mitchelstown.
Please see our Facebook page “Strictly Mitchelstown” to follow the progress over the weeks & months to come.

Cork Minors Make Final While Seniors Bow Out

Congratulations to Denis Ring & his Cork Minor panel who beat Dublin on Sunday last to make this years All Ireland Final, where they will take on Galway in the curtain raiser on September 3rd.
We would especially like to congratulate the Avondhu contingent & in particular , Kildorrery's James Keating & Ian Butler who are students of C.B.S. Mitchelstown .

While these boys can look forward to their All Ireland Final, our Seniors unfortunately succumbed to Waterford in the 2nd game last Sunday. There is no shame in that result as this panel of players have given Cork supporters great joy this year & have really helped to promote our games through their great displays which saw Cork defeat Tipperary, Waterford & Clare to become this years Munster Champions.

As a panel, they have restored Cork’s hurling reputation & can hopefully build on their good work from this year to deliver even better opportunities to claim Cork's 31st Senior All Ireland in 2018.

Fixture

Co. Div.4 Football League
Friday 18th August.
Mitchelstown v Kinsale at 7.30pm in Limerick Road Pitch.

Best Wishes

Best wishes to Ballygiblin Junior A Hurlers who take on Dromina in the semi-final of the Hibernian JAHC on this Saturday evening at 6.45pm in Charleville.

Condolences

The Club would like to offer our respects to the Barry family & in particular his wife Mary & his children on the passing of a great Gael , Ned Barry of Croughevoe who passed to his eternal reward last week.

The Barry name is synonymous with everything that is good about G.A.A. in our parish & I'm sure it's a name that will continue to remain that way for decades to come.

We would also like to pass our condolences to the family of Ballyhooly's Philip Leahy who tragically died recently.
