MITCHELSTOWN GAA NOTES

MITCHELSTOWN WIN JUNIOR LEAGUE IN GREAT STYLE

MITCHELSTOWN 1 – 12
SHANBALLYMORE 0 - 10

Mitchelstown travelled to Fermoy last Week to play Shanballymore in the final of the Cavanagh’s Football league final it was a beautiful night for football with the pitch in excellent condition and as it happened both team’s eager to play football and leave nothing after them. Straight from the throw in Shaneballymore got the ball and within 30 seconds had the first score of the game this was followed by another well kicked score by Shaneballymore who settled very quickly in to the game then on the 7th min a well taken score by Jason Cott which started to give this young Mitchelstown team to settle and on the 10th min a well kicked free by Jason had the teams level Mitchelstown started to get on top with Danny Keane and Shane Doyle bursting forward from the half back line at every opportunity but scores were hard to get with some great defending by Shaneballymore defence for all the pressure Mitchelstown had only appoint to show which was kicked by Brian White 0n the 20th min Shaneballymore started to get on top around midfield and quickly added points on the 23rd and 25th min to put them in front with 5 min remaining in the half but to be fair to Mitchelstown they responded very well a great move from the half back line was eventually kicked over the bar by Paudie Donegan from the kick out Dave Dinnen won a great ball passed to Brian White who slotted over the bar to put Mitchelstown a point ahead in the dying minutes of the half then in injury time a ball kicked from well out the field seemed to be going well wide but Jack o Brian had other ideas and some how kept the ball in play beat the defender and play a great one two with Jason Cott and cooley dispatched the ball to the corner of the Shaneballymore net to leave the score at half time 1 5 to 0 4 in Mitchelstowns favour. Shaneballymore started the 2nd half in the same way as the first and quickly knocked over two good sores and were piling on the pressure but some great defending by the full back line kept them at bay those two scores were cancelled out by two well kicked scores by Jason Cott and Brian White to leave 4 between again entering the last quarter and to be fair to Shaneballymore back they came and kicked a great free from 45 yards out to reduce the lead to 3 then on the 52nd min a great save by Cathal O Sullivan that rebounded back in to play was brilliantly and bravely blocked by Michael Maher and the ball cleared up the field and the move eventually kicked over by Paudie Donegan to put Mitchelstown 4 ahead with 5 min remaining as hard and bravely as Shaneballymore tried they could not break down the Mitchelstown defence in the 59th min Cathal O Mahoney finished off the scoring for Mitchelstown with a well taken individual score to leave Mitchelstown winning by 5Board Chairman Barry Aherne officiated over the presentation proceeding which also saw Jason Cott been named MAN OF THE MATCH Aidan O MAHONY from sponsor Cavanagh’s was on hand to present the cup to team Captain Danny Keane to the delight of the large Mitchelstown following. It was a great squad effort over the semi and final both days using 20 players on each occasion they are a very young team but over the Competition played some great football on the night while the young lads were great the experience of the likes of Maher Dinnen Donegan guided them to a good victory also thanks to Colm Courtney and Cillan Dollin who played a great part all year in the team but was not present due to injury also thanks to Selectors J IRWIN E KEANE T PRICE and team Manager D lambe
