MITCHELSTOWN ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND WITH COMFORTABLE WIN OVER ADRIGOLE

MITCHELSTOWN 2 21
ADRIGOLE 0 9

Mitchelstown Travelled to Macroom last Saturday night to play adrigole in the 2nd round of this year’s Intermediate football championship and put on a very impressive performance against the west Cork side It was a great night for football the weather was good and the pitch was in excellent condition Straight from the throw in Mitchelstown meant business with Shane Beston slotting over o point after 2 min Adrigole responded straight away with a well kicked score then on the 5th minute a great move by Stephen Fox to Shane Beston to Sean O Sullivan who coolly finished the move off with a well taken point this score spurned Mitchelstown on further scores by Cahill Sullivan and Keane had had Mitchelstown leading 0 6 to 01 after 15 min Adigole responded well and kicked 2 points on 16th and 18th min but then when Mitchelstown felt threatened they upped the gears and some wonderful point scoring by Pa Magee Beston and Keane had Mitchelstown back in control and leading at half time 11 to 0 5 Straight from the resumption Town were on the front foot with a well taken score from Sean Walshe followed by two superb kicked points from placed balls by Liam Keane who’s placed ball kicking was the worth the admission alone but to be fair to Adrigole from A Seemingly hopeless position they got stuck in a rattled 3 points in a row to reduce the deficit to 5 points with 15 minutes to go that got a positive reaction from Mitchelstown and in the space of 5 minutes they tagged on 5 points with wonderful team play that ended with Beston Cahill Keane finishing them off that seemed to take the spirit out of Adrigole and with Mitchelstown dominant all over the pitch they started to tag on the scores two wonderful taken goals in the last 10 minutes by Shane Beston and S Cahill put a bit of a gloss to the final score. In the end a very good performance by whole outfit and sets us up nicely for the 3rd round there was some very good individual performances on the night with Kevin Wren S O Sullivan in the backs Beston midfield up front KEANE and Cahill also to mention Jim Sheehan who playing a different role than normal worked his socks off and was responsible for a lot turnovers well done to all players and management and to all who travelled Macroom to support the lads.

MITCHELSTOWN ADVANCE TO LEAUGE FINAL

MITCHELSTOWN 2 14
BALLYHOOLY 1 12

Mitchelstown had a trilling 5 point win over Ballyhooly in this year’s league semi-final played in Kilworth last Wednesday night it was a great night for football with perfect conditions and the pitch in excellent condition Ballyhooly started the game quicker than Mitchelstown and raced into a 2 point lead with some excellent scores early on Mitchelstown started to settle down with Jason Cott opening the scoring followed by a well taken point by Charkie White but then on the 15th min the Ballyhooly midfielder burst through the Mitchelstown defence and billowed the net with a great shot this was quickly followed by a point to leave Ballyhooly in a strong position on the score line 1 04 to 02 after 17minutes The Mitchelstown mentors made a few changes this seemed to pay dividends straight away with A Donegan catching some great ball in midfield and distributing some great ball to the inside forward line where P Donegan was causing havoc two well kicked points by Chawkie and P Donegan had Mitchelstown within striking distance then on 22nd min a great move by D Dineen to J Cott resulted in a well taken goal and had the teams level Mitchelstown were really motoring now and playing great football father points by Dollion Charkie Dinnen had Mitchelstown leading at half time 1 09 to 1 04 Ballyhooly resumed the 2nd half the way they started the 1st with 3 well taken points on the 33rd 37th and 39th minute to reduce the deficit to 2 the game was in the melting pot but Mitchelstown answered the challenge with a well kicked point from a placed ball by Chalkie on the 40th minute then two great individual kicked points by C Dollion on the 44th and 46th min resumed Mitchelstown 5 point lead. Ballyhooly kept coming back they followed with two good points and then only for a great double save by C O Sullivan and M Maher in the Mitchelstown full back line the teams would have been level this seemed to spur Town on a great move started in the half back line by D Molan to Charkie who sent a pin point 30 yard diagonal pass to J Cott who took in on the run beat 2 defenders and dispatched it to the back of the Ballyhooly net it was a wonderful score great team work but even after the goal you would think Town had enough done but know to be fair Ballyhooly kept fighting on two good points reduced the lead to 4 entering the last 5 min Bally hooley laid siege to the Mitchelstown goals but Mitchelstown held firm and with time running out they broke from defence and finished the scoring on the night with a well kicked point from P Donegan to leave Mitchelstown to run out 5 point winners it was a great performance by the whole panel and selectors on the night the younger lads of PENDLE DOYLE KEANE DOLLION were great but the experience of MAHER DINNEN COTT and the leader of them all the evergreen P DONEGAN was the difference between the sides it was a great game of football and fair dues to Ballyhooly they played their part they will now play Shanballymore in the final who had a GREAT WIN OVER THE FAVORITES Grange in the other semi-final TEAM C O SULLIVAN D MOLAN M MAHER D FARLEY S DOYLE G PENDLE D KEANE D DINNENO1 A DONEGAN01 P GORMAN J COTT2 O1 B WHITE05 C DOLLION03 P DONEGAN03 S MURPHY SUBS J O BRIAN 40TH MINUTE K FOX 50TH MINUTE
