Cork IFC Round 2b.

Mitchelstown travel to Macroom tomorrow evening  in the hope of making the next round of this years Cork IFC. 

We meet Beara outfit Adrigole in what is an all to play for contest as the losers will exit this years Championship.

Having put up a good performance against Kanturk in the first round, we will be hoping to improve on that performance again in order to come out on top in this tie.

We learned how dangerous Adrigole can be in our last bout with them back in 2015 when they very nearly put us to the sword before Town got out of jail to escape with a win that night in Kilmurry.

Throw in tomorrow night is at 7.30pm in Macroom.

Mitchelstown with a great second half overcame Adrigole on Saturday evening.
The Beara side got off to a perfect start. Shane Cahill had the opening score for 'Town after just 30 seconds. Adrigole replied with a goal when Kevin Green O'Sullivan and Sean O'Shea worked very well for David Harrington to find the net.
Further pressure by Aaron Ger O'Sullivan and Tom Joe O'Sullivan led to a fine point on the run by the inrushing Aaron Ger O'Sullivan. In the seventh minute Mitchelstown conceded their second goal when Eamon Jer O'Sullivan in a movement involving David Harrington and Kevin Goggin resulted in a fine goal by Tom Joe O'Sullivan 2-1 to 0-1. Two minutes later David Harrington made it 2-2 to 0-1.
Mitchelstown improved greatly with Laurance O'Flynn and Shane Beston particularly impressive. They held Adrigole scoreless till the 29th minute when they had a goal by Kevin Goggin.
In between Mitchelstown had some good scores that had them right back in the hunt. First Jason Cott and Joseph O'Sullivan combined with Laurance O'Flynn who placed Dave Dineen for a fine point.
Michael Walsh followed with a pointed free. By the 19th minute Mitchelstown had 5 wides while Adrigole had 3. Mitchelstown with rapid points by Stephen Fox and Jason Cott cut the lead to three by the 23rd minute 2-2 to 0- 5.
By the 28th minute both sides had kicked six wides each. The third goal for Adrigole came at a vital moment just before the break by Kevin Goggin after good play by Aaron Jer O'Sullivan and Tom Joe O'Sullivan.
The Beara side led 3-2 to 0- 5 at the interval. Mitchelstown were completely in control during the second half. They gained control in the half backline and midfield areas.
They made some great attacks and took some very good scores. Two goals and ten points in this second half to just five points for Adrigole shows the difference in class. Shane Beston (3) Joseph O'Sullivan and Colm Courtney with points made it 3-2 to 0-10 after just 39 minutes play. Tim O'Shea placed David Harrington for a point in the 40th minute.
Good play by Laurance O'Flynn and Jason Cott led to another Shane Beston point. In the 44th minute 'Town took the lead when Laurance O'Flynn and Shane Cahill combined for Jason Cott to goal.
The Avondhu side never looked back from here. Shane Cahill placed Stephen Fox for a goal in the 45th minute 2-12 to 3-3. There was no way back for Adrigole who had four points in the final quarter.
Mitchelstown closed out the game with points by Dave Dineen, Shane Beston and Pat Molloy to emerge deserving winners.
