MITCHELSTOWN GAA NOTES
MITCHELSTOWN AND BALLYHOOLY PLAY OUT A DRAW
Ballyhooly 1 12
Mitchelstown 1 12
Top of the league table clash between Mitchelstown and Ballyhooly ended up an exciting draw last Friday night back in Ballyhooly, both teams were fully committed and it was nip and tuck for the full 60 min throughout this leaves us unbeaten and in 2nd place in the league behind Ballyhooly with two games remaining and in good position to qualify for play off stages of the Cavanags 2 FL. Mitchelstown started very well to the game and opened the scoring with points by Paudie Donegan and Brian White in the opening 5 min but Balllyholly replied and kicked 4 points without reply Mitchelstown half back line started to get on top and good scores from Paudie Gorman and Micheal Keating had town level after 20 min played but for some wayward shooting town should have been in front they were to pay dearly for that Ballyholly in the space of 3 min rattled off 1 02 but town did not lie down and a Shane Murphy point followed by a goal and a point by Brian White had the teams level at half time 1 06 a piece. Ballyhooly started the brighter of the teams in the 2nd half and kicked themselves in to a 3 point lead but back came Mitchelstown with points by Paudie Donegan Shane Murphy and Paudie Gorman to leave the teams level with 15 min to go Mitchelstown suffered a big blow when Stephen Fox had to be replaced due to injury and their backs were put to the wall when George Pendle was sent off after a 2 nd yellow card was dished out to him but they responded well to these set backs and really dug in for the last 10 min both teams swapped points and Mitchelstown went to the front with a very well kicked point by Brian White and tried desperately to hang to the lead in the dying minutes but back came Ballyhoo and they were awarded a free with the last kick of the game and they duly slotted it over the bar to leave the teams level, Mitchelstown should not be disappointed that the did not get full points they had good mixture of young and more experienced players on the team and they gelled very well they played a very good team in Ballyhooly who were Junior B County champions last year were in a good position with 2 games remaining against Ballyclough and Liscarroll.
MITCHELSTOWN LOSE OUT TO BALLINORA
Ballinora 2 10
Mitchelstown 0 11
Mitchelstown travelled last Saturday night to play Ballinora in our Div 4 league game and came away with no points and a very lack lustre display which was disappointing as we needed the win to keep our challenge going for to qualify for the latter part of the league Mitchelstown playing with the wind in the opening half were well on top in the opening 15 but squandered a lot of chances and had only a 3 point lead when Ballinora struck for a goal points by Dylan Price and S Doyle had Mitchelstown in the lead at half time 1 04 0 6. Ballinora playing with the wind in the 2nd half and started very strongly and were in the lead after 5 min when thy kicked 2 points then a long ball kicked in by the Ballinora midfielder was not dealt with and the ball was finished to the net by the full forward it was a very soft goal to give away at that time of the game while all year town would get stuck in and make a go there seemed to be no response points by Dylan Price and S Beston were token resistance and Ballinora responded with some good taken scores and ran out easy winners by 5 at the end of the game
